Balgal Beach

A short drive north of Townsville lies Balgal Beach, which features an excellent boat ramp facility that provides easy access to the Palm Group of Islands. While there, enjoy a swim in the beach’s new stinger net enclosure.

Stop for fish and chips at the creek side cafe, or a game of golf at the Golf and
Country Club. Take a restful stopover at one of the accommodation houses. Rollingstone/Balgal area has three camping areas available free for 48 hours - two beachfront & one creekside. The community centre at Balgal Beach has a rural transaction centre offering internet access & centrelink/medicare facilities.

For a change in scenery, take a 30-minute drive up to Paluma Village (from Rollingstone), where you can take a walk in World Heritage listed rainforest or enjoy a snack or a meal in the relaxing atmosphere with the birds.

The self-drive stretch extends from Crystal Creek in the south to Gordonvale in the north and is recognised for its diverse environment merging pristine beaches, thick rainforests and sheer drop waterfalls with the soft pastoral beauty of undulating hillsides.

Crystal Creek is north of Townsville along the Bruce Highway is a popular swimming hole with cascades of (as the name implies) crystal waters from Mt Spec. An ideal picnic spot in a cool rainforest setting.

Thuringowa covers an area rich in unspoilt beauty and there are many places of interest to be enjoyed.
